A Prospective Study on the Korean Medicine and Western Medicine Collaboration Pilot Project

During the fourth stage of the pilot project, studies were conducted on frequently occurring collaborative diseases such as facial paralysis, stroke, knee pain, and shoulder pain. Detailed information will be released later in reports and publications.

Study on Systematic Review and Evidence Investigation for Collaboration Between Korean Medicine and Western Medicine

Systematic review is a study method that systematically identifies, evaluates, and synthesizes high-quality literature to answer a specific study question
(Source: NECA Systematic Review Manual).

  • In the 2023 systematic review focused on evidence for Korean Medicine and Western Medicine Collaboration, we organized the results of prior study derived from existing R&D projects, such as the Development of Clinical Practice Guidelines for Korean Medicine, alongside the library established by these initiatives. Additionally, we compiled results from systematic review addressing diseases and treatment methods where clinical evidence is necessary.

Survey Study on Investigation of Patient Satisfaction and Needs in Korean Medicine and Western Medicine Collaboration

This study on the investigation of patient satisfaction and needs in Korean Medicine and Western Medicine Collaboration focuses on patients who participated in the fourth stage pilot project. The study examines patient characteristics (such as age and gender) and the specific diseases treated during collaboration, while also gathering feedback on satisfaction and needs regarding the pilot project. This survey is conducted annually.

  • 01

How satisfied are patients who received Korean Medicine and Western Medicine Collaboration treatment?

Among patients treated at KYUNG HEE UNIVERSITY KOREAN MEDICINE HOSPITAL, NAJU DONGSHIN UNIVERSITY KOREAN MEDICINE HOSPITAL, BUNDANG JASENG HOSPITAL OF KOREAN MEDICINE, and other pilot participating institutions, 91.25% reported being satisfied with the collaboration. Notably, 93.77% expressed satisfaction with the effectiveness of the collaboration, and 88.79% indicated satisfaction with the treatment procedures.

  • 02

What types of patients visited the participating medical institutions for collaboration treatment?

What types of patients visited the participating medical institutions for collaboration treatment? This Study found that approximately 64% of patients visited for the short-term treatment of acute diseases, while about 46% were ongoing patients seeking treatment for chronic diseases. This indicates a demand for collaboration in both acute and chronic conditions.

Survey Study on Satisfaction and Needs of Medical Professionals in Korean Medicine
and Western Medicine Collaboration

The study on the satisfaction and needs of medical professionals in Korean Medicine and Western Medicine Collaboration focuses on gathering feedback regarding
satisfaction and needs from medical professionals who participated in the fourth stage pilot project. This investigation is based on their experiences with
collaborative treatment. It includes assessments of various factors, such as the level of collaboration, diagnostic accuracy and treatment efficiency identified in
clinical experiences, patient benefits, and institutional advantages, which are important elements determining the quality of the pilot project.

  • What is the satisfaction level of medical professionals involved in collaboration?

In 2023, a satisfaction and needs survey regarding the Korean Medicine and Western Medicine Collaboration pilot project was conducted with 117 practitioners, including physicians and Korean medicine doctors, from 65 out of 75 participating medical institutions involved in the fourth stage pilot project. Approximately 83% reported that the collaboration improved the accuracy and efficiency of diagnoses. Additionally, around 88% noted an enhancement in treatment effectiveness, while about 82% indicated improved patient convenience.

Study on Cost Estimation and Feasibility of Korean Medicine and Western Medicine Collaboration

The study on cost estimation and feasibility of Korean Medicine and Western Medicine Collaboration serves as a critical indicator for the transition of the pilot project into a full-scale initiative. This study involves: 1) an investigation into the maximum willingness to pay among patients who have experienced collaboration at institutions involved in the fourth stage pilot project, and 2) a practical survey targeting representatives of medical institutions to assess the workload of healthcare personnel implementing collaboration and the cost of treatments associated with establishing and operating the collaborative infrastructure.

Survey Study on the Monitoring of Co-administration of Western Medicine and Herbal Medicine in Korean Medicine and Western Medicine Collaboration

This exploratory study is part of establishing a Drug Utilization Review (DUR) monitoring system to investigate adverse drug reaction cases arising from the co-administration of Western medicine and herbal medicine at institutions participating in the Korean Medicine and Western Medicine Collaboration pilot project.

  • In the 2023 monitoring study, consultations with experts were conducted with 58 participating institutions that reported having their own adverse drug reaction reporting systems, as identified through a preliminary survey from January 1, 2023, to the date of the study. The results summarize the organizations responsible for reporting adverse drug reactions, the individuals reporting these cases, the forms used for reporting, and the number of patients reported in the adverse drug reaction reporting system.

Study on the Discovery of Treatment Techniques in Korean Medicine and Western Medicine Collaboration

This study aims to explore and identify treatment techniques that integrate various medical technologies arising from collaborative practices at institutions involved in the Korean Medicine and Western Medicine Collaboration pilot project. Through retrospective clinical studies, the research defines treatment actions, patient demographics, and expected treatment outcomes, proposing further studies to establish clinical evidence for integrated and converged treatment techniques based on Korean Medicine and Western Medicine Collaboration.

Evaluation Study of the Standard Critical Pathway (CP) in Korean Medicine and Western Medicine Collaboration

This evaluation study of the Standard Critical Pathway (CP) in Korean Medicine and Western Medicine Collaboration consolidates the standard critical pathways from institutions participating in the fourth stage pilot project and investigates their current status and development progress.

  • In the 2023 evaluation study, a comparison was made between the standard critical pathways established and those assessed at specific time points, identifying the number of new pathways developed during the pilot project. The study summarizes the application rates of standard critical pathways by condition, the status of EMR application for these pathways, as well as their training, revisions, and supplements, and the outcomes of their implementation (patient satisfaction, treatment quality, convenience of care, staff job satisfaction, and management efficiency).

Survey Study for Medical Professionals on the Activation and Institutionalization of Korean Medicine and Western Medicine Collaboration

This study was conducted to promote and institutionalize Korean Medicine and Western Medicine Collaboration, involving interviews with healthcare professionals from multiple collaborative hospitals, categorized by public hospitals, private hospitals, and university hospitals. Suggestions were made on various aspects such as pricing, incentives, and the structural framework of medical institutions and education systems to enhance collaboration.
